The Orange County Mash Ups are proud to announce our Winter competition – a collaboration competition with Riip Beer Company! The winner of the competition will have the opportunity to brew on Riip’s 10 barrel system alongside Ian McCall, Head Brewer. The winning brew will be served at an upcoming Orange County event alongside other OC Pro Breweries.
Quick Date Guide
Fill out the Sign Up Form by January 25th
Bring your entries to Riip Beer Company, Steinfillers or Windsor Homebrew Supply between February 1st and 8th.
Results will be posted on OCMashups.org and social media platforms on February 9th.
All beer entered must be developed by homebrewers, on a homebrew system. No individuals belonging to a professional brewing agency many enter. In the event that recipes are not available, the beer will be disqualified. Entries must be entered under the name of the person(s) entering it. Do not use a business or fictitious name.
Entrants must be a member of an Orange County Homebrew Club or Long Beach Homebrewers. Entrants must be AHA members at the time of entry. AHA memberships are available on the AHA website.
Homebrewers should be thoughtful of the commercial scale brewing process and understand that production timelines and ingredient availability may impact Riip’s selection.
Riip Beer Company operates a clean facility, no wild beers will be considered. Only brewer’s yeast fermentations are acceptable.
Riip Beer Company gets final discretion of the recipe made available to the public. If the winning beer is made with a cost prohibitive or otherwise unfavorable ingredient, Riip may opt to brew a runner-up beer.
Orange County and Long Beach Homebrew Club members are invited to enter two entries per person. The entry fee is $10 per entry. Entry payments must be made by Friday January 25th. Entries fees are paid via paypal to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Entrants must fill out the Online Entry Form no later than Friday, January 25th. Entries that are not paid for will be disqualified. Beers will be checked in according to Entry forms. Beers that are incorrectly or unclearly labeled may be disqualified.
Submit three (3) 10-ounce to 14-ounce bottles per entry. Bottles must be free of ink, paint, and labeling other than competition entry labels. Bottles may not include any identifying marks. Bottles with raised lettering or logos are acceptable. Solid color caps only. If any member of the judging panel considers a mark identifying, the entry will be disqualified. Steward(s) and Judge(s) have final discretion on the determination of identifying marks. Attach a Competition Label to each bottle with one (1) to two (2) rubber bands. Do not tape or glue. Certain entry styles require additional entry information to be properly evaluated. Refer to the BJCP 2015 Style guidelines for entry information rules. Do not provide additional details unless prompted to by the BJCP guidelines.
If you have special instructions for the judges (for instance, to roll a bottle before opening) this may be included on the competition label.
All entries must be dropped off at Riip Beer Company, Steinfillers or Windsor Homebrew Supply Co between noon February 1st and 5 PM February 8th. Facilities will be unable to receive entries before or after the submission period and entries will be turned away. Entrants are responsible for the presentation of their bottles and delivery.
